Great Memories!

Pretty excited to get this book. I was born in Rapid City on April, 10, 1941 , so you can see the connection. On page 24 there is a picture of the open house in 1945. I was four and mom took me to this open house. I still remember going aboard a C-47 and wondering about the holes in the windows. (Gun Ports) Dad's job took him to Deadwood/Lead in 1947, and that's where I actually grew up. when I was a Freshman at Lead High School, I have great memories of lying on the grass at football practice and watching, but mostly listening to the B-36s flying over. There has never been, nor likely to ever be again, an airplane that stirred the soul with it's noise like the B-36. My cousin and several other men I knew served aboard that airplane, and it was always the best day of the week for me to go visit my aunt when my cousin and friends showed up. Loved the flight stories. Yes, I have a history with that airbase. Mom and dad used to talk about going to a big dance that was held in the "Big Hanger". Can't remember the band that played that night, but Guy Lombardo comes to mind. Great book, many memories, thanks for doing it.

Great Present

My family was stationed at Ellsworth from 1976-1981. I got this book as a Father’s Day present for my dad. He who rarely reads loved it!
