Fireman’s Hall Museum is pleased to present “From Horses to Horsepower — A History of Philadelphia’s Fire Apparatus 1871 to 2017.”
This book truly captures the evolution of the Philadelphia Fire Department’s fleet of fire engines, from the inception of the paid professional department during 1871, utilizing horse-drawn equipment outfitted with steam-powered pumps, to today’s diesel-powered apparatus. Combining text and historical photographs, the reader can learn about the trials and triumphs faced with providing fire protection to one of the largest cities in the United States.
