About the Author: Charles Apple has spent more 40 years working as an award-winning reporter, designer, graphic artist and editor at newspapers across the country including the News & Observer of Raleigh, North Carolina, the Chicago Tribune, the Des Moines Register, the Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Virginia, the Orange County Register and the Houston Chronicle. He’s served as a consultant and instructor to groups of journalists around the world, including in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, England and the Philippines. Since 2019, Apple has built full-page infographic-heavy stories for The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Washington. His “Further Review” pages cover history, science, politics and pop culture and run four days a week. Those pages are distributed to newspapers around the country. Apple lives with his wife, daughter and extensive home reference library in Lilburn, Georgia, in the northeast suburbs of Atlanta. In his spare time, he ... well, to be honest, he researches material for his pages.
